All For The Winner (1990)
All for the Winner is a Hong Kong comedy film directed by Jeffrey Lau and Corey Yuen, starring Stephen Chow in his breakout role. It’s a parody of the gambling classic God of Gamblers and marks the beginning of Stephen Chow’s rise as the king of "mo lei tau" (nonsense) comedy. Stephen Chow plays Sing, a naive young man from the countryside who discovers he has supernatural x-ray vision that allows him to cheat at cards. Guided by his slick uncle (Ng Man-tat), Sing enters the high-stakes world of gambling, earning the nickname "Saint of Gamblers." Hilarity ensues as he stumbles through tournaments, rivalries, and romantic mishaps. The film blends slapstick humor, martial arts, and satire, with Chow’s comedic timing and absurd style shining throughout. While not deep in plot, it's wildly entertaining and packed with quotable lines and over-the-top gags. Rating: ★★★★☆ (4/5) – A hilarious classic that launched Stephen Chow to superstardom; essential viewing for fans of Cantonese comedy.
